The San Diego State University (SDSU) Rocket Project was originally founded in May 2003 by five engineering students interested in the field of rocketry. This is a student-led organization at San Diego State University that designs, builds, and launches liquid and solid rockets.

Aztec Aerospace Design (AAD) is a student-run organization first established as Design Build Fly at San Diego State University in 1997 to compete in the international DBF Competition. Each year, students design and manufacture a new unmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft to enter into the competition.
